Shaleen Ladha (SL Snaps) was first interested in photography at a young age. She can recall helping her father with his photography projects in the early 1990’s, watching him master his craft. After a strong interest in taking photos as a hobby, she decided to take it more seriously and pursue formal education. In 2017, she graduated from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in photojournalism.

Towards the end of her program at SAIT she accepted a 6-week internship with Vogue photographer Chloe Aftel in San Francisco and Oakland, California. Aftel helped open her eyes to a world of portraiture and how to turn photography into a lifelong career. Soon after, Shaleen held her first photography exhibit in her hometown of Calgary, AB showcasing portraits of people she had shot over the previous year.

Since then she has taken up both music and street photography to add to her portfolio. She has shot internationally known artists such as Young Thug, MGK, Marshmello, NAO, 88GLAM, Chris Lake, Daniel Ceasar, Flying Lotus, DVSN, Dayne Jordan and Soulection artists, The Whooligan and StarRo. Shaleen’s photography has been featured in online publications and magazines including for WestJet, Apple and BBC Radio1’s show, Diplo and Friends.

More recently she worked under Taoray Wang and celebrity photographer Aviva Klein for NYFW and was contracted to photograph the Spotify 5 Year Anniversary.

Her passion for street photography has taken her all over the world, which in turn helped her formulate her second photography show in Toronto, ON. A Tale of Two Cities, the title of her exhibit, was a contrast and comparison between Tokyo and New York and Shaleen wanted to showcase it where her love of big cities began and where she now resides.
